An Election Tribunal (the Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal) seating in Abuja, Nigeria has declared Senator Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the 2018 Osun Sate Governorship Election. Senator Ademola Adeleke represent Osun West district in the National Assembly. The decision was made by three man judge panel on Friday, March 22, 2019. Some of you may recall that in 2018 Osun Sate Governorship Election between PDP Candidate/Senator, Ademola Adeleke and APC Candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, INEC declared APC Candidate, Gboyega Oyetola as the winner. But Senator Ademola Adeleke rejected the result and went to the Election Tribunal. The Tribunal was sitting in Osogbo, Osun Sate but it was move to Abuja the nation’s capital due to security concern. The judges said that, the September 27, 2018 rerun that was conduct by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was illegal. The lawyers to PDP and Senator Ademola Adeleke told the tribunal that “returning Officer who cancelled the results in 7 Polling Units does not have the power to cancel election results of a polling unit”. The Election Tribunal subtracted 2,029 votes from APC and 1,246 votes from PDP in 17 polling units where there was noncompliance. The final decision was spilt between the three man judge panel. The two judges voted to declare Senator Ademola Adeleke as the winner and one voted against it.
